Our anatomy ultrasound and OB appointment last week went well! Since we used IVF and I have AMA (advanced maternal age hahaha) the doctors check baby's heart thoroughly. It was cool to see the blood flow within baby's little body and from my body to hers through the placenta. She moved a good bit and even kicked at the ultrasound. Baby girl is now about the size of a mango or magic 8 ball. I am definitely feeling her move.
Recent cravings have been salad with fried chicken. I can tell I need to eat every 2-3 hours which is fine when I get to the grocery, but a little tough at work to plan snacks. Of course the snacks I bring are rarely what I want to eat. Although it often helps make sure I get the nutrition I need.
Because of IVF and AMA I am at higher risk of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. One OB recommended baby aspirin, the other reviewing my health stated I would be unlikely to get much benefit from the aspirin. Of course we asked Dr. Kim and celery juice is the answer. 1 cup a day of celery juice...not the best taste but I would rather the juice than aspirin. Dr. Kim also recommended cod liver oil, which I have been taking.
When I thought about my fatigue and feeling off, I realized I was probably low on Vitamin D. I requested my OB to test and sure enough I am 25 points lower than where I know I feel good. From the research I have seen, my vitamin D and calcium levels are super important. Baby will get what she needs there, but it could predispose osteoporosis if I don't stay on top of my nutrition. All in all we are doing well and nearly halfway!
I have been taking several Novant Health (FREE!) maternity courses. I highly recommend them to any expecting mom. They are online and full of helpful info. They even have prenatal yoga 3 times per week. My work schedule only allows 1x week but some is better than none!
I'll post the 2 most clear updated ultrasound pictures, but you may not get the email notification so check the main Ignite Locals Page.
