The last 3 weeks have been a whirlwind. I saw my OB and we heard our girl's heartbeat again. All of my lab work is normal. Next appointment is Friday, after the Anatomy Ultrasound February 8th.
I have been fluctuating between feeling some relief of the 2nd trimester (more energy, less nausea) and feeling kinda crummy. I figured nutrition had something to do with it but couldn't quite figure it out. It's a challenging time of year for veggies when I just want hot, savory, cheesey comfort foods. Chili and soup are good options, I just need to put the effort into making or buying some quality ones.
Then the insomnia came back with a vengenance. I have barely been sleeping 6 hours, let alone the 12 ish (including naps) my body really seems to want/need. I told Dr. Kim about it. His assessment was that my small intestine is working over time to get nutrients which has the side effect of increasing heat around the heart. Makes sense why I also had bursts of anger that I didn't understand. Seriously, feeling angry and unable to sleep because only half the house got vacuumed is just plain silly. Thankfully Dr. Kim had some suggestions. Stop eating cow products (READ: cut out cheese, cottage cheese, milk, steak, lamb, ground beef). So that will require some re-working of my snacks. One of my friends helped problem solve it yesterday so now I have veggies and hummus. Dr. Kim also suggested cucumbers and peppermint tea. The big picture is less of foods that are "hot" to digest and more of the "cooling" foods.
Baby is growing and moving more. She is the size of a large apple and my belly shows it. This week her hearing is developing and she will start tuning in to my voice and heart beat. We are getting excited that we are near the halfway mark. YIKES there is a lot to get settled and organized before July!
