I started writing about our IVF journey in the middle. I'll provide some backstory over the next month, because not much will happen medically over the next month.
We signed up for a 2 cycle plan last year and a 3 cycle plan this year. An IVF "cycle" is the 4 or 6 week plan to alter the menstrual cycle to allow for stimulation of multiple follicles to produce and mature eggs simultaneously. Instead of one follicle maturing, producing an egg, and ovulating the egg during the menstrual cycle, IVF uses the meds to produce multiple follicles and eggs that are retrieved surgically.
I have completed 3 cycles and have 2 cycles to go. After my last egg retrieval we have been waiting for my period to start without any medications. I have been on several supplements to reset my reproductive system, detox the injected hormones and nurture my eggs. Women have their eggs at birth. Their lifestyle and genetics can impact the egg quality and longevity. As with most health things, it can take 2-3 months to have the full cellular impact. However, every day makes a difference. It is truly about choosing better, not perfect.
Now that I have started, we wait. I emailed my nurse and then don't do much until I have my next period. Because of my appointment based office schedule, I will inquire as to what type of IVF cycle I can anticipate for April and change the office hours accordingly. We are blessed to be self employed!
I will keep posting, aiming for each day. I will answer any questions and share my approach and how I am doing with my plan to rest, nourish my body and stress less. Time for a massage!
